Before the official launch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic received certification from China’s 3C regulatory body, offering an early look at what to expect from the upcoming smartwatches. Alongside confirming the existence of both models, the listing also revealed some important technical details. As with previous generations, Samsung will be offering LTE variants for both watches, allowing users to stay connected on the go, even without a phone nearby.
Unfortunately, the certification confirms that the charging speed for the new Galaxy Watch models won’t be improving this year. Both the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic will continue to support 10W charging—the same speed used in the Galaxy Watch7. While some fans were hoping for faster charging times, especially given the increasing use of smartwatches throughout the day, it seems Samsung has chosen to maintain the same standard for now. That said, it’s still fast enough for most users, especially those who charge overnight.
On a positive note, the new smartwatches will retain all the core connectivity and functionality features that users have come to expect. This includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 for better energy efficiency and more stable connections, GNSS for accurate location tracking, NFC for contactless payments, and of course, wireless charging. These essentials help ensure that even without a boost in power, the experience remains smooth and reliable.
In terms of design, Samsung is making a subtle but interesting change. The Galaxy Watch8 series is expected to adopt a “squircle” case shape—a mix between a square and a circle. This design refresh could offer a modern aesthetic without straying too far from the classic look that Galaxy Watch fans love. It’s also likely to align visually with the upcoming Galaxy Watch Ultra, creating a more cohesive product lineup.
While charging speed stays the same, the refined design and continued support for premium features could still make the Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic appealing upgrades. Samsung is expected to officially unveil the new wearables in July, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7.
